Boris Johnson’s father has been left devastated after being forced to give up his home to make way for the new HS2 high speed rail link – which Boris supports.

Stanley Johnson, 75, told friends he is “heartbroken” – but has no choice but to sell his “life’s investment” to the D e p a r t m e n t  f o r Transport under its “need to sell” scheme.

The five-bedroom house – which he bought in 2007 for £2.5million, and which Mr Johnson told friends was worth £5million before HS2 was unveiled – will be practically worthless due to its proximity to the track linking London, Birmingham and other cities.

A woman at the property in Primrose Hill, North London, confirmed its sale last night but did not reveal a price.

Another source said: “Stanley tried to get Boris to intervene. He told people even Boris can’t save him.
